A lot of the search stuff comes down to the amount of content your file servers store. For our electrical engineering company, 1 job folder consists of AutoCAD files, scanned architectural drawings, site photos, word, excel, powerpoint, and Access documents, scanned faxes, and Dataview (electrical data recording device) files.

When looking for files in that mountain of data, a search function can usually beat a human reading through file names looking for a particular revision of a document, saving the company money overall due to more employee productivity due to less time looking for stuff. Yes, the productivity increase may be minute, but an increase is an increase none the less.
