For supposedly educated technologists - the number of IT staff that fall for concensus 'science' spouted by failed politicians lining their own pockets buying worthless carbon 'indulgences' are really depressing.
You can't pick up a tech journal without some simpering 'journalis' going off about how IT is saving the environment with lowered carbon impacts. What a crock.
When you body finally reaches equilibrium at room temperature - your carbon footprint goes to zero - but you're not going to be very productive.
The latest suggestion is to dump any IT device over 6 years old because it is sooo bad for the environment. Amazingly - a recent IDC(?) report said that is exactly the average age of a lot of enterprise IT and network equipment because of delays in purchasing new equipment due to budget cuts. This is supposed to save the environment by reducing power consumption and cooling cost. It sounds to me like a 'wealth' transfer to help improve the bottom line for HP, Jupitor, Cisco, etc.
Running operations efficiently makes good business and technical sense. Putting employees in airport hangars with desks lowers their productivity (ever try to concentrate in a room of 50 - 100 people chattering on phones, running deskside meetings, and just 'being'?)- it's damn tough.
