RE: Software group: U.S. needs foreign workers

I don't buy this, the only reason I can see to allow more foreign workers to work in the US is to hold down wages for corporations. Real wages have dropped in the US for citizens in this space by approximately 30% to 40% percent since the year 2000, even given that wages at that time were inflated some 10% to 15%. I attribute this drop to 2 changes a) globalization, b) the initial tech boom and bust. I have recently been interviewing and 2/3 of the people interviewing me were H1B people who want to hire more foreigners, not basing their decisions on experience and education. This is reverse discrimination, it is the same effect we will see as China ultimatly asserts control over the US debt. That said, I do feel that a vast number of displaced American workers from other domains have slim to no chances of being retrained in the short term to fill the current requirements. The only cure I can see is education of our children and grandchildren, of course this solution will take 10 to 20 years to kick in.
