Dynamics CRM seems like a me-too move by Microsoft. CRM software is, after all, the poster child that has long sinced proved software-as-a-service
can succeed. The multi-tenant architecture of Microsoft's product, which began a global roll-out yesterday, is interesting, reports a Network World story. Multi-tenant software allows multiple users to share a single implementation. It isn't new. Salesforce.com and others offer it. It allows costs to be kept low for service providers and, ideally, those savings can be passed on to customers.
Although Microsoft is late to the game with SaaS CRM, it can be a successful offering. Microsoft has a large channel all out there ready to push Dynamics CRM 4.0. Microsoft has made it clear that it is ready to start a price war with Salesforce.com and others. Plus CRM 4.0 can be integrated with desktop tools, including Office Outlook and Excel, and other server software such as SharePoint Server 2007.
