Thank you for the lists, makes you think once you look the products!

As the article says it is not easy to categorize performance monitoring / measuring / optimizing / modeling / management / etc products and/or systems. Some of these products have more than one capability.

I don't know how to put to the list without listing all of them by name but for example almost all relational databases have performance measuring, reporting, optimizing and management capabilities. Or other systems, as MS Vista, some JIT compilers, etc which really measure, report and optimize based on usage and can be managed. Or, another examples, the products which offer measuring, reporting and either manual or automated but managed load balancing in virtual, clustered, multiprocessor, etc environments.

Not to criticize the article but because the performance management today is too often thought to be same as the capacity management, on which some products offer help and some don't, maybe that also would need a small clarification. Maybe just a small note that the performance management is (mostly) the tactical part of the capacity management which is strategic.

And arguable many transaction and operating systems also offer very good performance management with own measuring, reporting, and management functions as NonStop Pathway, z/OS work load management, etc. Ouch, a long list!

I hope I didn't confuse the issue but this is really an important subject for every company which uses computer systems and wants to manage the growth or even minute changes.
