labor shortage

0

There are plenty of Americans who would love to work for these companies. Unfortunatly few of these companies are willing to take fresh grads and let them get some experience, they find it easier to throw up a smoke screen of complaints about skilled labor shortages in order to go offshore and import labor from elsewhere.

Americans are not stupid, we know how the game is played. College students ask themselves a very simple question when deciding whether or not to enter a field and that question is: will a get a chance to use this degree or not. Clearly they have figured out that there is no incentive to work hard for a degree only to be told that they cannot have a job without 2 years of experience. I'm not an engineer and this is not sour grapes because I didn't go that route, but I see this same scenario play out year after year.

If you want engineers, then you have to create a reasonable incentive to go into engineering.
