Revolutionaries Unlock iPhone 2.0 Apps

The most disappointing aspect of the Apple iPhone SDK announcement was Apple's big brother tactics forcing distribution of iPhone apps only through the Apple Store.

Create an unreasonable restriction and you're guaranteed to have someone else find a way around it, and it's no less different in this case.

Gizmodo is reporting that members of the Pwnage project have created a hack into the iPhone 2.0 firmware that lets you install unofficial iPhone apps. Good for the Pwnage project. It's overreaching for Apple to put this restriction on the iPhone and just dares groups like Pwnage to find a workable way around it.

Time will tell if Apple plugs this hacked into hole like they did by bricking unlocked iPhones that could run on non-ATT carriers. For the time being, we have an open iPhone 2.0 firmware again and groups like Pwnage will try to keep it that way.
