Three versions of Xen desktop virtualization arrive

So, on May 20, Citrix will be shipping three version of its XenDesktop software that virtualizes the desktop. As expected, it integrates with System Center.

It is a little curious that Microsoft is cooperating with this product (even though Microsoft and Citrix have had a long history of partnership). Microsoft basically squashed the previous front runner of desktop virtualization software, Softricity, when it purchased it and then made it available only to people who bought into Microsoft's "extended warranty" program, Software Assurance. But maybe Microsoft is learning to get with the program when it comes to customers' best interests. And it still wins a bit by making its management platform the preferred choice for XenDesktop. Now we'll see if users bite.
