CAPEX and OPEX: you're looking for it in the wrong place
If you consider the entire infrastructure for a VMware VDI project, the CAPEX for it is usually the same or a little less than traditional desktops. That's not where the big savings are.
OPEX is where VMware truly shines. Check out Gartner or other analysts reports on savings in service desk, flexibility, provisioning and other, or talk to their customers already using it. You will be surprised.
