Couldn't resist

Well, I normally wouldn't respond, but you laid it out so nicely that I couldn't resist -- so allow me to reconcile some of your statements:

1. The article was never an ad for VMware, it came about originally because of our procurement of the Pillar Storage -- the VMware stuff was sort of an afterthought.

2. It is true that I don't have to deal with the physical network or email gateway stuff (spam, AV, etc). I work at a research lab within the College -- the College supports around 20K people, so there are certain things that they're simply better equipped to handle -- and are easily handed off.

3. Our lab has 3 arrays, the Pillar Axiom 500, IBM DS4500 and an old EMC FC4700. Among the 3, it totals around 120TB. I manage them all alone.

4. Every piece of equipment in my data center I've been (usually) solely involved in purchasing.

5. I support around 40-50 people total, with a total of around 75-80 desktops -- including XP, Linux (mostly CentOS 4) and MacOS. Again, alone.

Anyway, take that as you will -- obviously the article was written with a specific angle (storage & server virtualization) and didn't need to go into all the specifics.
