Increasing bandwidth capacity is a fraught with peril. Most execs don't have a clue as to how their IT investments are paying off. In fact, in most cases they're actually costing more money than they contribute to the bottom line.
Internet pipes are the "gating factor" for any business regardless of the backbone speed. 10 GB speeds going to the Internet is like a superhighway leading to a dirt road. When companies continually add more and more Internet capacity it mostly is sucked up by non-business activities. More surfing. More chatting or whatever.
If organizations would rationalize their Internet usage to strictly business requirements most would only need a 56 K line and would have plenty of resources available.
