IDDY awards
The awards aren't given out for the latest trends, but for on-going work embodying the Liberty Alliance principles. Nor does it really have much to do with DIDW except to use the show as a venue to present the award winners.
As to the relevance of the show, I've been predicting the demise of trade shows for a dozen years. Some have gone away but others took their place. The benefit of face-to-face contact seems to outweigh the detriments of travel...
