New Trojan calls on Skype

Another good reason not to run Windows!

Re: New Trojan calls on Skype.

Gee. The Linux and OSX Versions Aren't Affected

So is this really a Skype Vulnerability, or is it just used as a vector to spread the trojan infection?

Once again Network World proves it's nothing more than a propganda machine for it's advertisers.

Oh LOOKY! The link I was sent to view this article contains "Siemens". Why? Most likely because they buy ad space on this site.

Do you suppose Siemens, being a huge telecom equipment manufacturer might benefit from any FUD spread about Skype?? To prevent adoption of the technology?

Hmmm... Naw... That's un-possible.

hmmmm, how about the actual user takes responsibility for there actions, according to the article this trojan like many requires the user to download and run an exe (executable) file. I can see not placing blame on a few beginners that do not have a mentor to show them the way.

if you let your parrent or children on the net and you do know better shame on you, if a few families slip through the cracks of education on the bad element of the internet and I get spam or trojan invatation from them I offer help. If they refuse and I get another further content and messages from them if I do not wish to remove them from contact list is delayed or deleted as I know I can not trust them to do the right thing.

While I do hold MS accountable for releasing such a bad operating system, it is also just as much blame for an end user to continue using it.

Just like when you was a kid, when your mother told you if you hand out with them bad apples you might get blames for something you did not do, just the way it is. So keep hanging out with the likes of Microsoft and see what else they get you blamed for.

I don't think the headline is reasonable given the mode of operation of the Trojan is not through the VoIP component of Skype but through the instant messaging

Just another blindly idiotic Windows hater

The only reason you see more viruses, Trojans, worms etc. targeting Windows is that that's what the majority of users on the net are running. If Linux was the 800-pound gorilla, I'd bet you would see the majority of attacks against Linux boxes. The no-life hackers, script-kiddies and other virus originators out there are going to go for the biggest target they can just to get their jollies off reading about it (or having someone who can, read it to them.) The VAST majority of computer users don't want or need the tasks that Linux, Unix etc. are good for. Personally, I use Linux at work for various reasons related to the software tools I use, but use Windows at home. My family would be pissed as hell if they couldn't do their Dora and Clifford games or run their scrap-booking software etc. because I loaded Red Hat at home. Lets face it, Linux is really only of use to scientists, engineers and software professionals or web designers. It's statements like the top of this thread that show how insincere and childish some people can be.

You will be amazed to know that my computer-little-literate homemate, who is a traveling salesman on the road 6 days a week with his notebook, turned to Linux in 60 minutes after a system crash. He did not know it is customer's responsibility to back-up personal data, and to create Windows re-install cd from a utility it was hidden in his PC. He came to me asking for an XP disc, he had the license on the label, but, didn't have one, so...
I installed one very user-friendly Linux distro on its secondary partition, in about an hour.
From that very day, he's reading old data straight from the unbootable but not lost original NTFS partition, and doing his email, fax, voip, spreadsheet, picture handling, music listening and some games. He said his PC did not perform this fast even the day he picked it up from the shop... Please world, stop with FUD, just open you mind and try out. M$ has done (and still doing) a great job of bringing the PC down to the housemaid and retired elders, but it is not the only way.
