Verizon and Wi-Fi

Folks:

How can "ANY" form of Wi-Fi work after "Verhosen" (Verizon) whispered into the FCC's ear to make "All" radio bands 20 mhz wide which is just right for "CELL PHONE" only use?

Re: Clearwire puts the 'how' in WiMAX.

In Hong Kong harbour, they have "10 Ghz 500 mile wireless" that is in the 11-13 Ghz band. We don't have any system, and only a few Muni systems working in limited ability. Thanks Verhosen so much.

Bill,

I like your take on the relevance of the 2nd and 3rd tier approach that Clearwire seems to be taking. This makes a lot of sense.

I am also watching NextWave (the former spectrum overbidder) who just bought the UMTS TD-CDMA technology that IP Wireless was pushing. I believe they (NextWave) are also deploying WiMAX and even Wi-Fi in appropriate markets. Now that's hedging just about all technology bets, isn't it?

I would be interested in hearing your take on NextWave (Nasdaq:WAVE)

Comment #1 (Inventor): No company has ever successfully stopped organic growth (so long
it is useful) but they can sure slow it down.
However, in the end, resistance is futile
(just ask 90s IBM).

Comment #2 (TB): I make it a personal policy not to comment on publicly-traded companies but do believe that WiMax can be adopted faster if it is inclusive of Wi-Fi. Why not leverage hundreds of millions in (Wi-Fi) R&D dollars as well as deployments to date.
