Now we know why he didn't want to run for president: There's simply no way to provide Secret Service protection in space ... particularly inside the cramped quarters of the international space station.
(Update Thursday: And Google's got the space thing going on this morning, too.)
That conclusion seems painfully obvious this morning as we ponder the news that the world's richest man and most famous chief software architect is reportedly contemplating an out-of-this-world vacation.
From this news report this morning:
The world's richest man Bill Gates is considering a possible flight into space, a Russian cosmonaut said from International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, citing Gate's colleague, current space tourist Charles Simonyi.
"Charles said that Bill Gates is also preparing to visit space," cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin told journalists during a video link-up from the space station, broadcast on state television Rossiya. "So the next time someone will be with Bill Gates. For me this is the biggest surprise of our flight."
While the report remains unconfirmed - not to mention highly improbable - Simonyi is certainly in a position to have had such a conversation with Gates, given his Microsoft pedigree and the fact they remain buds.
And, of course, there is always the possibility that the Microsoft marketing department is behind this one: I mean this could be the product launch to end all product launches.
