Pulvermedia are presenting a webinar on IP multimedia processing. That is the use of platforms to provide processing for media streams, which agreed is of interest only to the pointy heads:

...they all need IP-based media processing -- the "behind the scenes" foundation essential for economical and scalable VoIP, video, and IMS enhanced services.

This is really of interest to developers like Cistera et al who make a lot of use of media processing as part of their application platforms.

IP media server vendors have delivered IP media processing functionality using a number of different hardware platform approaches. Traditional purpose-built DSP-based hardware products deliver carrier-class performance and superior economics for large service provider deployments, while software-based products that run on off-the-shelf processors deliver lighter-weight implementations that provide economical low port count solutions for small enterprise solutions.

Why should we care?....
Because people should realize is that the continuing standardization of this layer in the network is an essential part of moving application services from companies like Cistera forward.
If you want the latest Event Alerting and Notification system for your hospital, or Quality Assurance and compliance systems for the contact center, then these building blocks are fundamental for companies like Cistera to deliver these capabilities.
The good news is that with standardization we can deliver far more functionality at better price points than we could before.
