I've been wondering about this for weeks. USA Today put the question to Steve Jobs and here's what the Apple boss had to say:
Q: Why did you choose 6 p.m. to put the phone on sale, instead of the more traditional 10 a.m?
Jobs: It seemed like a good time. People are off work. It's a time that's democratic. It's still light out. Everybody is available at that time. We didn't want people to have to take time off from work. We wanted everybody to have the same chance.
Uh, are all those thousands of people standing in line today unemployed?
And what chance will anyone else have of getting a phone if they aren't already in line?
I'm thinking the 6 p.m. thing didn't quite work out as planned.
