Verizon Wireless and its old, crippleware technology

Verizon needs to realize their environment. Their handset technology is at least a year behind its competitors.

Re: Sprint and Verizon Wireless set to battle Apple iPhone fervor.

Additionally, Verizon adds standard "crippleware" to their phones that disable many features such as Bluetooth web surfing from a laptop, photo transfer, and ring tone uploads so they can bill customers for each and every transaction (1 or 2 bucks doesn't sound like a lot but do it 50 times, and you have an additional 100 dollars tacked on to your regular monthly fees)

Verizon doesn't care about their customers -- only their profits. They work just like any other huge company with nothing to lose.

att iphone vs sprint mm phones

I own a samsung sph MM A940 2mp optical zoom phone. For the last year I have been able to do every thing the iphone does and more not to mention faster on Sprint's EDVO Rev A 3G network. Download full songs for 99 cents, e-mail access, on google, yahoo, sprint, aol. I can shoot videos and upload to web sites instantly. The only thing I'm lacking is the touch screen, but my phone is a clam shell which makes it smaller when closed. Plus I have voice to text and an internal motion sensor for games. By the way my unlimited power vision plan is $10.00 a month. NO THANK YOU ATT AND I PHONE!

I keep seeing references to the "cumbersome touchscreen" of the iPhone. Has anyone actually tried it? I think it would only be cumbersome if you have rhumatoid arthritis - otherwise it's easier to use than any other device I've tried.

Three words about crippleware: Class Action Lawsuit

0

I'm remaining anonymous as of this posting but I am very interested in raising a class action lawsuit vs. Verizon due to their concealment of crippleware on their phones. When you buy a phone that is advertised as bluetooth and USB compatible it should be made very clear if they are not full featured. In fact, on my Moto Razr from Verizon the USB is only good for RECHARGING THE BATTERY! That's it, unless I pay for additional software (cable). Then I can transfer contacts and use the phone as a modem. If I want to transfer music or voice recordings or pictures I'd still be out of luck. It's outrageous.

How can Verizon get away with promoting the camera and video capabilies of their phones as if they are digital camera devices when you must pay fees to transfer any recorded images or videos to another device? I'm also unaware of any way you can listen to music on a Verizon phone without purchasing the music through V-Cast. However, they advertise their phones like they are iPod equivalents, they just forgot to mention that you can't listen to any of the music you already own from other sources

The goals of the lawsuit would be to release Verizon customers from their contracts on grounds that the use of crippleware was concealed and phones were purchased without adequate notification of Verizon's modifications and without notification that the customer will be billed for EVERY data file transfer into and out of the phone. I'd also like to raise a refund/exchange settlement so that customers who were fooled into purchasing crippled phones can get their full purchase price refunded.

I'm not a lawyer and I'm not certain of the leagalities involved. I'm interested in hearing opinions and any legal advice that can be offered.

class action lawsuit

Yes, great idea! The very reasons my husband and I bought the Razr phones are the features Verizon disabled, and when I complained they said "We can't let you use bluetooth/transfers because of security concerns". Baloney. No other carrier has such "concerns".

All I know is that my phone can't talk to my computer, and I can't up/download pictures or sounds without paying extra, which I refuse to do. It's deceptive advertising. In spite of all my "friends and family" being on Verizon, I intend to switch to AT&T just so I can use the features any given phone might come with.

I was scammed too! I bought a chocolate VX8550, and cannot use any of my bluetooth features. I cannot send pictures, music, ring tones, anything. ANd your now saying that i can't even put music from my computer onto it. Well why the hell did they advertise all those things if they were just going to disable them. Its false advertisement, and i am EXTREMELY pissed and infuriated with the way verizon is taking advantage of their customers. I have been 100 percent loyal to them, however they could give a shit, and aren't planning on doing anything about this. WE just have to take it. Well no, thats not the way this world works, and i am throughly pissed off.As of right now, i am planning on going ot the Attorney General for Consumers, to see what they have to say and to see what they can do to help us out. Let me know of any legal advice that you receive. Thank you, and hopefully justice will be served.
