The world of USB thumb storage drives may not be as exciting as it once was a few years ago, but at least companies are adding new features as the capacities continue to get larger (and prices keep shrinking).
From Kingston Technology today comes two new drives – the 8GB DataTraveler II Plus – Migo Edition ($154) and the DataTraveler II (model DT 100, prices range from $19 for 1GB up to $116 for 8GB) with its "capless" design.
The Migo Edition drive adds data synchronization software from Migo that lets users take their PC content with them to a new "guest" PC – including e-mail, Internet settings, browser favorites, cookies and Web history, including files and photos. When the Migo user returns to their original PC, the software synchronizes any changes made from the guest PC onto the original (we also assume that the 'guest PC' data is erased). The drive also includes the "Universal Mail Format" feature that provides e-mail access from Windows Mail, Outlook and Outlook Express clients.
The DT 100 features a "thumb-action" slider on the side that lets users protract or retract the USB connector, eliminating the need for a separate cap. The DT 100 works with Windows Vista, XP (SP1 and higher), 2000 (SP3 and higher) Mac OS (10.x and higher) and Linux (2.4 and higher) systems.
