The past 7 days on Cisco Subnet: Cisco confirms its gear caused iPhone problems, plus more Cisco chatter

On the eve of its annual Networkers lovefest Cisco confirmed that a "Cisco-based network issue" caused iPhones to flood Duke University's wireless LAN. Cisco failed to provide any other details or issue general fixes as of late Friday, leaving other organizations worried that they too will face similar problems.

On Friday, Network World published a story in which chief Cisco salesman Robert Lloyd acknowledged a slowdown in enterprise sales in the United States. The story also details cisco's challenges ahead as it tries to find new revenue in untested waters.

On Wednesday, Cisco warned of a DoS vulnerability to its Wide Area Application Service software. flaw could cause some devices running WAAS software to stop processing all types of traffic, including data and management traffic. Cisco issued a fix and detailed workarounds.

Snapping hard at Cisco's heels is Juniper Networks, whose share price soared 12% Thursday, blogged Brad Reese on Cisco.

Talking of bloggers, we welcomed two new Cisco Subnet bloggers: Michael Morris, a technical team lead and network architect at a $3 billion high-tech company, who'll be sharing notes and best practices in his From the Field blog; and Ken Presti, an 11-year channel veteran who'll be writing a blog starting Monday, July 23 titled ChannelSurfing with Ken Presti.

Resident blogger and IP expert Jeff Doyle continued his short series on implementing IPv6, tackling issues including cost control, the feasibility study, transition vs. implementation, and taking stock of what you what needs to be changed in support IPv6.

Author Expert blogger and data center expert Doug Alger indulged in a bit of data center humor by sharing The Top 10 Reasons It Took 6 Days to Create the Earth and 18 Months to Design and Build a Data Center, and responded to a reader who criticized Doug's take on data center physical infrastructures.
