Rove quitting to spend more time with his iPhone

Presidential political advisor Karl Rove, perhaps the most controversial figure in history’s most unpopular administration, has told the Wall Street Journal that he will resign at month’s end in order to devote more time to his iPhone.

Rove’s relationship with Apple’s phenomenon of a phone was first revealed last week by TIME magazine in this photograph, after which political observers began to chatter that the picture may well have signaled the end of Rove’s reign as “the brain” of President Bush.

"There's always something that can keep you here, and as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family," Rove yesterday told the newspaper, which while an unwavering ally of the president, oddly enough, has not been known for its coverage of the iPhone. Rove’s son attends college in San Antonio and is said to be having trouble deciphering the advanced features of the iPhone, in particular, its e-mail deletion capabilities.

Rove is considered one of the nation’s foremost experts on e-mail deletion, although he – like the rest of us -- is relatively new to making things disappear from the iPhone. Rove has long been an innovator in leveraging the phone for “competitive advantage” in the often rough-and-tumble world of national politics.

College academics should prove child’s play by comparison, although Rove says he’s taking on this new challenge without false pretenses.

“There comes a time in every man’s life when he must put the needs of his phone, er, I mean family, ahead of even those of his country,” Rove said. “The boy’s quite accomplished with the computer stuff – OK, mostly games and that damn iPod, but … He just needs a little bit of extra TLC with the new phone.”

Rove later denied that his voice cracked on the words “extra TLC.”

A statement issued by the White House press office indicated that the president is fully behind Rove’s decision.

“Laura and I have always loved and respected Karl,” Bush said, “and we know that he is first and foremost a family man. That iPhone can be tricky, I’m told. God’s speed to him.”

There’s been no word from the White House as to how the Bush twins – Jenna and Barbara – are coping with their iPhones.

(Update: There is absolutely no truth to widespread media reports that Rove and/or his son are considering the radical "whittling" thumb surgery to help them cope with their iPhone challenges.)

(Update 2: "Fake Steve Jobs" isn't very happy about Rove having one of his phones.)

History's most unpopular president?

Hello,

I realize that your blurb about Karl Rove and the Iphone was a joke, or meant to be, but this is certainly not history's most unpopular administration.

Have you ever heard of LBJ? Richard M. Nixon? This nation is still recovering from what those two clowns did, back-to-back. Let's go back in time a bit to Warren G. Harding, the most corrupt man to hold the office ever. Or more recently, Bill Clinton? (It has nothing to do with sex, either.)

You think in terms of the present, not of history. If you are going to attempt to make a stab at history, then KNOW your history.

The "most unpopular administration" might be a phrase stretching the truth. The President's approval numbers are low, but the Congress has maintained lower numbers than the Pres. throughout most of his term.

Perhaps you should spend more time on tech and less on politics, one of those topics you seem to know well.

Is this a networking stor, a joke, or a political commentary?

I am not sure if this article is meant to be tongue in cheek or if you are trying to tell a true story. I am new to this publication and to your articles.

Whatever the case, a leading statement such as "the most unpopular administration in history" polarizes the story, the author, and the publication. Your choice of phrasing seems to be taken right from the Democratic Party play book.

I would have the same problem if you were quoting from the Republican play book. This forum is supposed to be for networking, not politics. By mindlessly quoting the rhetoric of one political party you tell me that you are not being very objective.

I'm hoping that this crack was part of the joke. Right?

Not only is the column

Not only is the column innapropriate and simply an indicator of the author's fevered liberal political hatreds, the 2 links that supposedly relate to some kind of sleazy behavior by Rove (purportedly illegal email deletion and an attack on McCain) don't have anything linking him to either. So it's misleading as well. How about that? A column about how evil Rove is consisting of web links that don't indicate what the author wants us to think they indicate. He apparently has Rove Derangement Syndrome.

As Rove said in his WSJ interview a few days ago,

"I'm a myth. There's the Mark of Rove," Rove says in the interview. "I read about some of the things I'm supposed to have done, and I have to try not to laugh."

Sensitive!

The article is just funny. I didn't realize that loyal Bushies could be so sensitive! ;-)
