I would like to add that checking to make sure you are using SSL and checking the URL to make sure it uses HTTPS are fine, but you must also check and verify the certificate of the site to be sure you are actually connected correctly. The scammers and phishers are getting more sophisticated and you can be using an SSL connection to them instead of your desired commerce site.
