I would like to add that checking to make sure you are using SSL and checking the URL to make sure it uses HTTPS are fine, but you must also check and verify the certificate of the site to be sure you are actually connected correctly. The scammers and phishers are getting more sophisticated and you can be using an SSL connection to them instead of your desired commerce site.

Currently, there is no single treaty/convention/protocol in the protection of online MMEs/SMEs and consumers transacting in e-Commerce on the Information SuperHighway.
Laws differ tremendously as a result of jurisdictional-based reality.
There is a need for concerted joint effort from all parties (governmental and non-governmental entities) to resolve this expanding e-commerce blackhole catastrophe.
