Cisco travels deeper into the virtual world

By Jim Duffy on Thu, 08/16/07 - 3:38pm.

Just as Cisco launches its Virtual World Blog comes added speculation that it is preparing to acquire some companies to boost its virtual efforts. The ReBang blog has been speculating since Cisco pocketed WebEx that the network giant would acquire Qwaq, provider of "virtual spaces for real work". Imagine virtual workspaces married with WebEx's on-demand collaboration services.

ReBang writes:

Christian Renaud, Cisco’s point man on virtual world technology, took the time to head off not speculative, but potentially speculative comments made on the Croquet 2 Play blog (Link); and did so by posting an entry (Link) for just that purpose. Sensitive.

But let’s face it, being a catalyst for increased network traffic makes a lot of sense if your Cisco. So maybe I was right. Maybe Cisco is thinking about acquiring (reLink). And they might then pull a Sketch-Up.

Cisco may be preparing for a virtual world but are Cisco customers ready to make the leap?
