RE: Refurb and spam headaches

Mark, I'm getting 500 to 600 spam messages a day (up 50% over the last couple months) so I definitely feel your pain. I am astounded that no one appears to be doing anything other than trying to filter out spam. I think we need to move away from relatively anonymous e-mail towards digitally signed messages with trust communities ala PGP. This will require infrastructure upgrades for everyone, but considering the amount of bandwidth, CPU power and person-time currently being wasted, I think it will be well worth it. Has anyone asked any of the financial institutions out there whether they digitally sign their e-mail? I'm pretty sure CitiBank doesn't. Why not? When we as consumers can verify the authenticity of the mail we are receiving, we are then in a better position to enforce otherwise toothless laws like CAN SPAM.
