Today I had a conversation with Paolo Tosolini, New Media Business Manager for Microsoft in Redmond.
Paolo is working on an exciting project called Academy Mobile,
"a Microsoft internal social computing initiative aimed at creating a knowledge sharing environment through the use of videocasts and podcasts. "
Academy Mobile is built on Sharepoint 2007 and is currently used by Microsoft as an intranet/extranet for geographically dispersed sales staff, allowing delivery to mobile devices or computer. Academy mobile was launched a few weeks ago internally for Microsoft staff to use. Although there is no planned public release date for this product at the moment, it is certainly one to look out for.
Feedback from users of Academy Mobile has had positive results with users easily being able to upload audio and video, and to share product knowledge and sales experiences through easily syndicated mediums.
I am yet to get my hands on this one - Paolo, if you are able to give me a live meeting of this, I look forward to seeing it in action.
