It's always nice to hear about school districts saving our tax dollars, and Open Source makes that easier than ever, as you can read in detail here. In this case, Novell Linux products and Open Source applications did the heavy lifting, but similar stories from other schools and districts cover the range of Open Source operating systems and applications.
I last talked about Technology in Education back in June with links to multiple earlier comments with more feedback than almost any other subject. At the time, many didn't believe the savings numbers I reported from reader case studies. Nice to see PCWorld finding the same results I found.
Of course, nothing stops businesses from saving money using Open Source. A good place to start might be The Open CD, a free disc full of free Open Source software that runs on Windows computers. The money you save will be your own.
