Communicator Mobile has been Released to Web (RTW) which gives you the ability to install the Office Communicator client on your mobile device:
"Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile is a unified communications client for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. Communicator Mobile runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 software for Pocket PC and smartphone devices."
My main mobile phone is a Windows Mobile 5 device, but strangely enough I never use this for any type of internet access, and it even has built in wireless. This might change in the near future, but I generally don't feel the need to be "pluged-in" to the internet while I'm out. Mainly because during business hours, if I am out and about, I always have my laptop and can jump onto a wireless network that way.
However, I think this is a great concept and I will be trying it out with OCS. It basically gives you the ability to always have an online IM prescence. Again, not sure I need that facility, because I am pretty much online for 23 out of 24 hours a day.
My last 3 posts have been about Unified Communications (UC) products and expect more of this over the next 2 weeks leading up to the UC launch on October 16th 2007. Looking forward to all these new UC gadgets.
