Interesting. Microsoft Research so far pegs actual phishing rates at about 0.4 percent of Web users ... less than 1/2 of one percent. However, given the number of users that surf the Web, still a lot in actual numbers. The methodology might be a little iffy, since the people involved might be phish-smarter than the average Web surfer. The story says: "Microsoft Research tracked password reuse among more than 500,000 Web users who downloaded the Phish Detective, part of the Windows Live OneCare Advisor package for the Windows Live Toolbar."
If they knew enough to download the Phish Detective (including what the word Phish means), then they are probably less likely to fall prey.
