The fall swing of ITEC regional conferences start this week in Chicago. On Wednesday morning the 17th I'll be giving the keynote speech: Technology Is Broken: How to Fix IT for Your Business. The rest of the day and on Thursday I'll lead a new ITEC feature, the "unconference" camp where attendees pool together their experiences, good and bad, and share with everyone else. Other camps focus on customers, Open Source software, and new media marketing.
Word of mouth remains the strongest form of advertising for many people, since they trust "real people" more than vendors and even speakers. My job as camp counselor is to watch and monitor, but not do a presentation. Think of this as the camps of your youth where you and your friends did the events under a watchful eye. Only this time, no rope swing across the stream.
Well, technically, there are no real rules at CampITEC, so if we could tie a rope to something, we could swing. I meant that metaphorically, however, but if you're in the Chicago area bring a rope and lets see what happens. I am sure the Fire Marshall will stop us from toasting marshmallows over a fire on the conference floor. That must remain metaphorical.
Those of you in Atlanta, Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Portland will have the ITEC show and camp in your neighborhood over the next few weeks. Start looking for rope swings now.
