RE: Scientists come up with self-encrypting document

This is already possible when creating XML-based documents. Any developer can encrypt a section of text and than unencrypt that section based on the user's role, a passphrase or even an IP address.

ahh... did you forget about 'Secret' Documents

May-be you should check with the U.S. Government, They have uncounted documents that need partial encryption. In fact they allow for single lines to be marked secret in a document and have published guidelines for gov. employees on how to do this. No mention of this in the guide lines though. May-be you should tell both of them to get together.
