Continuing their strong Leopard coverage, PCWorld now has Vista vs. Leopard: Battle of the new Features on their Web site. Does Microsoft's new Search match Apple's Spotlight? Does Safari set a new browser bar or will Mac users flock to Firefox? Take a look at the comparison and make your own decisions.
I believe Microsoft pushed the Vista Service Pack release into next year to avoid a head to head with Leopard. Vista appeared last January, Leopard appears now, the Vista Service Pack comes out early next year. Notice how blockbuster movies hit the screens only against smaller movies, not against another blockbuster? Going head to head means someone loses, but following and leapfrogging means continued headlines and success.
Rumors are spreading about tweaks to massage Leopard to run on standard PC hardware, not Apple with Intel hardware. Smart money bet this day would come when Apple announced their Intel chip strategy. Apple can tie the operating system to some unique hardware feature of their motherboard and keep this from happening. We'll know in a few weeks if that's the case or not.
If Leopard can be run on PCs, Apple gets the best of both worlds. They see how many PC users might jump if they could overwrite Windows with Mac OS X, without having to officially support the process. No technical support costs, just market research on a massive scale thanks to the hardware and software hobbyist tinkerers. Would you spend the $129 for Mac OS X 10.5, aka Leopard, to test on your own PC hardware? Let me know.

Comparing Leopard and Vista
yes!
hey ill buy apple leopard
hey ill buy apple leopard for trying on my hardware definetly
You bet
After spending the weekend testing out Vista for the first time, I came to two realizations:
1) While I won't say never, I'm more than comfortable saying it is EXTREMELY unlikely I will ever spend money on "upgrading" to Windows Vista. I'm not one to jump on a bandwagon, and far from an Apple enthusiast, but Vista really was as annoying as its been made out to be.
2) I don't care for Apple, but the thought of running OS X on a ThinkPad is becoming more appealing.
Not sure what I'll get on my next computer, but it won't be Vista.
I'm still using XP after
I'm still using XP after having to deal with Vista on a variety of machines and have no plans to upgrade to it any time soon. The latest versions of Suse 10.3 and Ubuntu however are looking much more attractive and I am running both on laptops that I use daily.
OS X. I would switch to it if it were to be released stand alone and not look back.
Comparing Leopard and Vista
I've been a MS user since MS DOS 1.0; but after playing with Vista, I think would be much more liable to switch now. I don't like an OS determining what hardware I can, or cannot use, or how I'm allowed to use it. Even with my high end system, I've had nothing but problems with Vista. It doesn't like my video cards, it doesn't like my sound cards, it doesn't like my DVD burner; of course Microsoft's generic answer is that it's the hardware manufacturer's fault for puting out non-compatible drivers. Perhaps it is, but even so, I regard it as Microsoft's fault for releasing the OS prematurely without verifying that the major hardware companys were onboard and ready.
I recently bought my wife and daughter new Dell laptops that were rated Vista compliant. They were both so impressed with Vista that they gave me an ultimatum, either put XP back on their laptops, or send them back to Dell. Needless to say, I had to go purchase two new copies of XP.
Vista is over
Opening my new HP running vista was like opening a spam site. A lot of crap, no interesting app, no peripherial worked.
I needed a computer, not a mental ill box.
I returned it to the seller and RAN into the next Apple store.
You bet what was my feeling: it was like entering an oasis in the middle of a desert.
I was helped with LOVE by an Apple guru and i now have a new iMac 24 which has only a problem: it makes me feel like an idiot because i should have switched for many years!
Atleast you came to the realization
Atleast you came to the realization....The same thing happened to me when I was experimenting with Linux...the only thing is that now you have a mac anytime you open your mouth to explain the benefits of a mac to other none mac people you'll get the following reactions:
1. They will roll their eyes at you like your some sort of crazy person recently let out of the nut house
2. Proclaim that your a tool of Steve Jobs and Apple
3. Label you a mac zealot
4. Start yelling at you saying that you spent too much money
5. debate with you that their windows box is just as stable as your mac
Enjoy your investment..I've been running a G4 and it still is running strong..
