I spent a couple of days last week in New York City where I visited the Microsoft Windows Consumer Experience Space in New York, and came away impressed with the advantages Windows Vista is making and will make to consumers, due to technologies already in Windows Vista™ and some more being developed under the auspices of Windows Live.
Also in attendance were other Microsoft Windows Featured Communities members such as Michael Reyes (HardwareGeeks), Steven Hughes (Boston Pocket PC), Terri Stratton (The Tablet PC.net), Brandon LeBlanc (The Windows Experience), Blair Briggs (WhatTheTech), Patrick Husband (OSNN.net), Bob Stein (ActiveWin), Jason Dunn (Thoughts Media), many Microsoft MVPs and several members of the IT press, including intrepid Microsoft observer, Mary Jo Foley.
Also present were representatives of mainstream media such as Maxim, Cosmo, Vogue, and GQ. I didn’t meet them, but I understand Playboy was also present. FC member Blair Briggs (WhatTheTech – formerly TomCoyote) also reported that there was a large contingent from Asia as well.
In all, it showed a welcome, necessary, belated, and albeit renewed focus on consumers from Microsoft as regards Windows Vista™.
This bodes very well for Microsoft as any positive uptake by the public of Windows Vista™ this Christmas and holiday season will undoubtedly quench the nonsense coming from the pie holes of the yobs in the IT press who are looking for Linux to be their savior.
There was an after-party on October 24 was privileged to meet Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies. We had a great conversation, and I look forward to using his email address frequently in the future. (Thanks for the intro, Mary Jo).
While it was not Las Vegas, feel free to note that all the good stuff from the party has been scrubbed and redacted, staying only in New York.
This forthcoming Christmas will mark the first EOY holiday season that Windows Vista™ will be in general availability for public consumption. I am pleased at what I saw. So will you.
A five-part series on the event will be posted on SmallBizVista.com and I shall link to it here.
