Announcement forthcoming on GPhone announced

The Wall Street Journal announced that Google is preparing to make an announcement about the release of the fabled GPhone. Only Google could make an announcement about an announcement and it be a big deal!

The big question remains if the Gphone will be a singular device contract manufactured for Google like the iphone or if it will be a software set licensed to device makers like Windows Mobile. If it's the latter, what would you call the Google OS-powered device? The GoOS? The MoOS (for Mobile google OS)?

It seems Google is at least in discussions with HTC (maker of the Mogul and TMobile Wing) and LG on the hardware side and a myriad of carriers globally.

Rumors swirl about when the actual announcement will take place. My best guess is they'll ride buzz and make a formal announcement in the next few weeks.
