Tolly Group engineers measured the standalone performance of the Nortel ERS 4548GT-PWR switch against the Cisco C3560G-48PS switch as well as against the Cisco C3750G-48PS switch to calculate the cost-per-Gigabit of throughput. |
For cost-conscious network managers, the switch of choice is one that can perform at a high level while simultaneously keeping the cost low for each Gigabit of throughput delivered:
The Tolly Group used the stand-alone switch throughput results to calculate a cost-per-Gigabit of throughput for the three switches tested.
This was done by dividing the switch price by the measured standalone throughput (see above diagram).
The Nortel switch offered the lowest cost at just $70 per Gigabit/throughput, 3.5 times less than the Cisco Catalyst 3750G-48PS and 2.1 times less than the Cisco Catalyst 3560G-48PS.

Again, I've never seen a Tolly test without the company who commissioned the test had the best product. So what does it tell you apart from who pays Tolly..
How can you contest price?
How can you contest price? That is a fact!
Maybe...
..the real issue could be that a company who declines to come knows they are in for a smackdown. I don't understand why so many folks who comment in IT forums seem to jump in to support a company even when it goes against all the factual evidence provided. I worry that we've lost our ability to think independently instead of doing hits at the kool-aid keg.
