Keyboards Bad and Good

By James Gaskin on Sun, 11/04/07 - 11:10am.

You interface with your computer almost exclusively using your eyes and your hands. Good advice from the ergonomics world says to provide a quality monitor / graphic card set and a good keyboard. Most keyboards included with systems today fail miserably to attain “good” status. They may look nice, like the new Apple keyboard, but they don't provide ergonomic support or any improvement to the typing experience.

That's why the PCWorld pictoral on The 10 Worst PC Keyboards of All time is so much fun. These systems are, thankfully, long gone. I'm waiting for a followup story on the 10 Best Keyboards.

Until then, take a look at the PCWorld story on Logitech's Comfort Wave Keyboard. I've lamented the lack of good new ergonomic keyboards, and here Logitech seems to have a winner. Microsoft, of all people, also released a well-reviewed ergonomic keyboard this year.

I'm putting the Logitech Wave Keyboard on my Christmas list. Or I may break down and buy one sooner. My track record for resisting temptations under $50 is poor.
