It's a strange month when ComputerWorld lavishes a fair amount of praise on Apple's new operating system while stating Microsoft Vista's report card says "not meeting expectations," yet that's what's happening. Is it our fault for expecting too much, or are vendors not delivering enough anymore?

The reader comments should disturb Microsoft fans. One reader says his company buys about 1,000 PCs per year from Dell and every one has Vista overwritten by their company standard XP disk image. Hmm. Is that company naturally cautious when upgrading, or did they try Vista and reject it? Many stories in both directions have been reported.

Let's hope Microsoft takes these criticisms to heart and really makes the upcoming Support Pack worthwhile. Until then, I still see no reason for companies to upgrade. The article says large companies are pushing back their Vista roll out plans into 2009 in some cases. If big companies with lots of techs and support from Microsoft don't move to Vista, why should you?
