MasterMind Security Panels

One of the nice additions to the ITEC conferences this year is a MasterMind Security Panel as lunch infotainment on the second day of each conference. I moderate as attendees ask questions and we answer them. Well, I let the security experts answer them. My job is to keep things moving and make jokes, and the panel members provide expert security advice for free to the attendees.

And experts we have. I wrote recently about Jesper Jurcenoks of NetVigilance and the warnings he's been providing about new rules on companies accepting credit cards. Other companies represented on past panels include Authentify, Intellisafe, Astaro, and a high-level user security manager from Sprint.

With three security experts available for an hour, attendees are getting at least $600 of consulting time for free. Every question gets answered to the best of our ability in the time we have. Every trend attendees wonder about gets addressed, sometimes with expert viewpoints from three sides (I don't count myself as a security expert, and certainly not when sitting beside the smart people on the panel).

When you go to conferences, ITEC and others, look for chances to ask questions. One of great values of conferences is the collection of expertise. Only once have I seen an expert presenter or panel member be less than gracious with time and information, and that's looking back over 15 years of conferences I've attended as a speaker or teacher.

Remember, hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of hourly expertise sits there, waiting to answer your question. So ask.
