Seminar announcement:

Stevens Institute of Technology’s Department of Computer Science, Columbia University and IBM Research will hold their fourth bi-annual Security and Privacy Day on Friday, November 16. The one-day conference will take place in Room 104 of the Babbio Center on the Stevens campus in Hoboken.

The all-day meeting will bring together researchers and practitioners in government, academia and industry, to discuss problems and possible solutions in cybersecurity, both for e-commerce and homeland security. A particular emphasis of the meeting is to bring together those interested in communications security and end-to-end security. The keynote address, “The Computer in the Voting Booth,” will be delivered by Andrew W. Appel of Princeton University.

Among the speakers at the conference are two Assistant Professors who recently joined Stevens Computer Science department, Antonio Nicolosi, and Sven Dietrich. Nicolosi’s presentation will describe the results of his recent collaboration with IBM researchers on techniques to counter unauthorized redistribution of digital content during transmission of live events. Dietrich's talk will outline the evolution of the command and control structures of malware from 1999 to today, with examples from DDoS and botnets.

The conference is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. For more information, directions to the campus or to register, please visit www.cs.stevens.edu/~jcordasc/security_and_privacy_day/
