RE: Disappearing Gmail messages baffle users

I'm thinking it's gotta be Karl Rove. I mean the guy has no peer when it comes to making e-mail disappear:

"Savvy" is a relative term. I've known many people that are computer savvy and still do something in error. In a related issue, we had a lady where I work delete all her emails accidentally for the past month. She had no idea what she had done. I determined that she had deleted a whole month of emails through the date grouping in Outlook. Instead of deleting the one email, she deleted the group taking everything with it and not noticing what she had done until the next day when she went looking for a past email.

Nitwit... nothing on a computer is going to be around long, even with google. *Sigh* you have to learn a lesson the hard way. Don't blame them.. you need a swift kick in the head for keeping something on "any" server.

Disappearing gmail?

Let's see, I just checked - gmail is free! So the users got all the service that they paid for, actually they got a lot more even with the disappearance!! And if someone is "building a business on the back of" a free service with no contractual obligation for the provider to provide - aye yi yi! I'd like to see that business plan...

actually part of the Google

actually part of the Google Apps program as well and it is built on the same Gmail system so it could be susceptible to the same issues.

It has happened to me twice

It has happened to me twice now...first time I blamed myself (I'm a tech, I know it is usually end user error) but this second time, after instituting backup and more rigorous processing of incoming mail, it is clear the issue is with Google.

They have a problem there - and I'm sure they have to know it, even if they aren't admitting to it...
