Apparently NGN has been confused (to a large extent), with IMS. Only towards the end, we see a single mention of 'pre-IMS'. SIP in itself is not IMS. In which case, what Sprint is doing is nothing that interesting, as it initially appeared to be. Several carriers have been using NGN, or pre-IMS for almost 5 years (or more) now.
