RE: Microsoft pulls plug on potty-mouth Santa

So, what was the point of the Santa to begin with? Was it supposed to be friendly, scary, funny or what? Maybe Microsoft isn't so ready to venture into the whole robot/artificial life area after all, though that isn't stopping them. Microsoft's new robot plays soccer
but this one doesn't talk and it wasn't built by Softies -- a Japanese firm built is using a Microsoft platform.

If someone had told me that Ballmer would be the inspiration for our Santa bot, I would have gone to see Gates myself and advised against it. Good thing nobody told Santa they were going to quit Microsoft and work for Google or he would have started throwing chairs and insulting people's mothers. He wouldn't have even waited for the Enter key to start shouting obscenities if somebody typed "Eric Schmidt!" Our bad, we admit that we should have modeled Santa over someone more likable than Ballmer, like maybe Ann Coulter or something. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to finding a good use for this Zune thing.

Ann Coulter

I think Ann Coulter would have told Potty Mouth Santa to shit or get off of the potty.

Ann Coulter is HOT

..and funny too. You guys sound kind of like wimps. I love people with strong opinions in the work place. So Balmer is no milktoast. GOOD!!! ...there is nothing written in stone that you have to listen and take to heart what he says! ooh I'm sowry...did I hurt widdle Jimmy's feelings. Don't cry. We'll get you a new pen-is shaped pacifier to replace the one you dropped.

What are you smoking?

Ann Coulter makes waves and sells books with her articulate but highly contrived foul mouth and foul talk.

If you like porno read her books...but they will not get you hot in the sexual way people!

Yes and Ann Coulter makes millions. You barely have a pot to urinate in! Ann Coulter is a significant somebody and you are an insignificant nobody!

You never noticed "Ann's" adams apple?

You've been living under a rock all these years. It's so big it could choke a horse.

It's a bot!

Have you ever had a conversation with a chat bot? If you have, you could easily understand how this sort of thing happens. If you haven't, well check it out (Send an IM smarterchild on MSN). It's very easy to lead a bot into a dirty conversation... they really aren't that intelligent and have only semi-dynamic canned responses programmed for conversation. It's up to the client to exploit those responses and that's what we have here. Now, if the 12 year old was asking "Santa" about explicit content, I'd say blame the parents... otherwise, this isn't news.

yeah, but!

this article sucks! Don't presume you know everything. It never says how this *particular* case could have happened! are you telling me a "canned response programmed for conversation" would casually mention oral sex? The stuff was clearly integrated into the code, dummy, and it IS kind of news because the Santa I know is not a pervert. Maybe you're the pervert, thinking this is normal? Pervert.

yeah but? what an idiot YOU are

Yeah but??? Did you call that guy a pervert too? That comment just shows what an idiot YOU are. Ever since ELIZA showed up, chat bots based on interaction with people have been chattering curse words and potty language, feeding back the interaction they are having with people. This article isn't news. I had a talking parrot that came with my 8 bit soundblaster and something called dr. sbaitso which would have made a sailor blush.
