SharePoint is becoming the next rouge application. An interesting analysis from firm CMS Watch says so, according to this article in
Network World: "CMS Watch says its clients include a North American bank that found `more than 5,000 uncontrolled and unaudited instances of SharePoint,' and a major energy company that 'reported finding more than 15,000 previously undetected instances of SharePoint.'"
Interestingly, if SharePoint doesn't find its way into unauthorized, uncontrolled use, maybe Office Live Workspace will. Microsoft today announced a public beta of the Google Docs competitor. It allows users to upload documents directly into a workspace from within Office. Once uploaded, users can collaborate or access the documents over the Internet. In any case, IT executives will have their hands full getting a handle on where their company's documents are, and whose got access to what information.
