Seth Weintraub has a blog on Apple and VoIP today. The short of it is that Apple and VoIP is not going to happen.

Apple could be building its own VOIP network and planning to integrate it into iChat both on the desktop and on the iPhone. Hopefully, they use the open SIP platform that allows it to communicate with many of the other phone systems in the world. Perhaps it partners with Cisco on this - part of the "iPhone" naming deal.

Wrong.....Apple is not interested in VoIP, Apple and specifically Steve Jobs is interested in Video and particularly how to create the shareable experience.

Apple is developing an ecosystem around iLife and how to use iChat as the hub to a shareable experience including iMovie, iDVD, iWeb. The devices are going to be the Apple TV, iPhone and the new iTablet as well as Mac obviously.

Apple is the closest to delivering a true experience. You will be able to "dial up" grandma on your HD TV, select iMovie from Front Row and share the photos and kiddie movies via your TV screen. You will have an iSight camera in the HD TV (Sony?) and you be able to do instant conferencing with your friends.

The future of communications for Apple is way bigger that simple voip calls.......
