Have you ever asked why IPMI is free!
Dell and Compaq back in 1998 had their own remote management cards and were not suing each other over the IP and I always wonder why?
Then comes along Intel and NEC and forms the IPMI with DEll and HP/Compaq.
Was it because a patent for "diagnosing and repairing PC's" back in 1996 a problem for them?
As the inventor of the 1996 patent I wonder what it would be like to get recognition for providing most severs on the planet and over the next two years most PC's and laptops will be have the ability to diagnose/repair function. The bottom line is a Patent is worthless unless you enormous funds to enforce!
