7 Cisco bad luck happenings in '07

By Cisco Subnet on Wed, 12/12/07 - 6:12pm.

Even the best of us has bad days or makes bad decisions, but when Cisco has them or makes them for whatever reason, they get reported widely. Here are our picks of the top-7 bad luck happenings in Ciscoland in the past year, ranging from the departure from Cisco of a high-flying exec to a wireless LAN data flooding to some major problems with Cisco VoIP equipment.

Ever Wonder Why?

The Voip vulnerability topic made me wonder, since a couple of these were VoIP vulnerabilities that didn't affect just Cisco, how come I never see Avaya, Nortel, or any other VoIP companies release security advisories? So Cisco gets punished just for being honest with their customers, whereas others never release a security advisory and they are not called out...nice.

you are mistaken

You make an eroneous assumption, in that you believe that all vendor 'do' VoIP exactly as Cisco does VoIP--- that's not the case. Avaya doesn't have some of the issues Cisco has because of the way our technology works and is deployed. Avaya's VoIP products work off a different OS, they use different technologies for controlling media-gateways, and [in my opinion] use more sound telephony feature set as the basis for our product. Can other vendors be subject DoS attacks and the like? Yes, but all IP-Telephony wasn't created equally, so we don't all have the same issues. fjm

Cisco's VoIP competitors have plenty of issues that are well documented:
