RE: Building a VPN with Cisco ASA gear

I was disappointed with this article for a couple reasons. First, Mr. Nutter should have done at least a little homework before responding, since it's pretty easy to learn from Cisco's site that the ASA 5505 base unit includes a 10 user license, and that the 5510 doesn't have a user license limit at all (the optional CSC module does have user licensing, but that's not related to this topic), so this is a non-issue in terms of bringing up a VPN. He also could have learned about the ASDM GUI for configuring the ASA, and that it includes a wizard for configuring VPN connections. In my experience this is the best way for anyone new to the ASA to configure a VPN, especially if they already have at least some understanding of VPN technology after having used them with another vendor's gear.

watchout, this article is mostly incorrect

Unfortunately, the author does not understand Cisco's user licensing. I recommend you disregard all info to that effect. User licensing has nothing to do with bringing up a S2S VPN tunnel. Use ASDM GUI and the VPN wizard to configure your vpn tunnel. If you have issues try here for help. http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=Virtual_Private_Networks_discussion

After I read the article, I was disappointed about the author. The author should never respond the question. In my opinion, he is new to understand L2L VPN, the best point of the article to direct the requester to cisco.com.
