Hello, I wanted to introduce myself and talk a little bit about my blog and what my plans for it are. First off, I'm Wes Noonan. I've been in the technology arena for the better part of 15 years now, some in IT, some as a consultant and some working for software development companies, which is where I am at today. I'm currently employed by NetIQ (An Attachmate Business) in their Office of Technology. In that capacity I am responsible for the technical architecture of our Virtualization and Network product offerings. My background is predominantly around Windows systems prior to focusing on network and security systems. Of late, I've spent a lot of time working with virtualization technologies, primarily VMware ESX based systems.
I've also written and published a number of books and articles in the network and security arena, the latest of which is Firewall Fundamentals by Cisco Press.
With my background out of the way, what is this blog going to be all about? Well, I must admit that I kind of don't know. Obviously, I plan on writing about numerous subjects with a focus on Cisco technologies, but I doubt that I will stick to just that. One of the elements of technology that really interests me is how integrated systems are becoming. It's no longer good enough to just be the Cisco guy or the Windows guy or the Unix guy. If you really want to be at the top of the game, I think you have to know at least enough about Windows, Linux, Unix, virtualization, applications, etc. to be able to understand the impact all of these things will have on your Cisco infrastructure (or your Windows infrastructure, etc). So while I'll try to always tie things back to Cisco, I don't know that I will tie everything back. Rather, I want to opine about the technologies that are out there that we are all seeing or soon will be seeing, and with a little bit of luck we will all come away better informed and more prepared for the challenges we deal with every day.
I'm going to shoot for at least a few posts a week and then play it by ear from there. I look forward to writing for you, hope you will find it informative and entertaining, and look forward to hearing from you as well via comments and feedback. Thanks!!
Wes Noonan
