Brad,

When your job is developing and steering products toward industry direction, you better be right most of the time.

One would think that a company like Cisco would only hire individuals for its top positions with stellar forecasting records.

In Warrior's Motorola blog from a year ago, she took a completely practical approach toward a consumer product in an industry where many buyers consider nifty features a significant part of the purchase decision.

In her blog:

1. Warrior played down iPhones touch screen and was concerned about durability.

2. Warrior stated that there is "nothing revolutionary" and the pricing is a stretch.

3. Battery life is a problem.

4. Concerned about its lack of high-speed over-the-air data access.

5. Felt the iPhone needed a keyboard.

6. Questioned if 4GB or 8GB of memory is really necessary.

7. Is a "closed proprietary system the right strategy."

How did Padmasree’s forecast fare?

The iPhone jumped to the No. 2 spot in the third quarter in the U.S. smartphone market with a 27% share:

iPhone Second Only To RIM In U.S. Smartphone Market

Talk about missing the mark!

Wow! Hope Warrior spends more time understanding the market before heading out with product directions at Cisco.

The iPhone will likely come down in price, but this happens with many electronic devices eventually and faster speeds and a more open system are on the way.

iPhone ended 2007 as what one analyst calls the fastest-growing consumer electronics product ever.

And research analysts expect sales to top Apple's projections for 2008.

Oh and dah, 4GB or 8GB of memory is nice when a single movie takes up 700K to 2GB of memory.

Its nice to watch a flick when you or your kid needs something to do.

One has to ask this deadwood:

Did you leave a trail of poor decisions at Motorola?

How the heck did you get hired by Cisco?

-------------------------

Reading the 83 obsequious comments to Warrior's blog at Cisco, one could be led to believe that Warrior herself invented the iPhone!

Obviously, former Cisco Chief Technology Officer and later Cisco Chief Development Officer - Charlie Giancarlo was none to keen to hang around and work with Warrior.

What is happening at Cisco, something somehow is different in a not very good way?

Business Week published an interesting comment made about Warrior being appointed CTO of Cisco:

Warrior is anything but a 'warrior.'

From a company (MOT) with so much technical talent to rely heavily upon someone who has nothing to offer other than "celebrity" psycho-babble, it hurts one brain to understand why she was there in that position.

She seems to have been clearly behind the "Razr and nothing" else" strategy Let's hope that this infectious form of de-capitated management style does not infect Cisco.

Otherwise, the Lucentification of Cisco will begin...

Perhaps Cisco has already "jumped the shark."

Sincerely,
