A security company is willing to fork over $500,000 in prize money to the person or company that comes up with an innovative technology to speed airport security lines.
The company making the offer, Verified Identity Pass and its Clear service, says the winning technology must meet the following criteria:
* Achieves acceptance by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for deployment at Clear lanes as providing the same or better security than the current Registered Traveler checkpoint process.
* Reduces inconvenience by, for example, allowing for no divesting of shoes, outer garments, or any other item approved for carry-on aboard a US commercial flight, and thereby achieves an increase in throughput of 15% or more.
* Is compact enough to be deployed at security checkpoints in at least three Clear airports.
* Can be operated at a cost (including capital costs amortized over five years) of less than 25 cents per passenger screened when working at full capacity.
In addition to the $500,000 prize, Clear will commit to a contract for the capital investment and operating costs necessary to deploy the winning checkpoint at every Clear checkpoint where the solution is accepted for installation by the airport and the TSA, the company stated.
Clear offers its members pre-screening provides them with a swipe-card that lets them pass through designated airport security fast lanes at 13 US airports.

Total Recall
The security in Total Recall was pretty tight...although it still wasn't arnold proof...maybe in another 10 years.
Walking X-Ray machine
I agree. Something like the walking X-Ray machine device/setup in Total Recall would be highly beneficial. As for a way to make it non-lethal for long exposure times, I leave that up to the experts.

Keep it simple, stupid.
How obvious- only screen people who might be terrorists, that would save 90% of the time in line.
Step 1- Establish speed line for anyone who will eat a hot dog and/or drink a beer or shot.
Step 2- Everybody else head to the nearest airport exit. Have a nice day.
Keep it Simple Stupid
I applaud this approach, but the ever present politically correct crowd won't see the sanity in it!
The easy solution.
Kick out the sillier rules with prejudice, scrutinize the rest for workability and actual threat signalling value, and last but not least, replace the goons with competent people.
Effectiveness will go up, maybe they'll catch an actual terrorist too, speed will go up, annoyance levels go down, everybody wins.
Oh wait, it isn't a technological solution. No can do. Sorry!
Whoops, there come the black helicopters. Now that I've uttered something that might be construed as criticism, I won't get half a million, but a free pass to gitmo.
Easy...
just make everyone fly naked with no carry ons.
Great idea!
Great idea! A speed line for naked people with no carry-on bags (external)! Not only would it eliminate carry on weapons and Muslim Terrorist it would also: not cost anything, not require any additional equipment, not require any additional training, not pose any health risk, be easily implimented, save on jet fuel and also speed up customs! I can just imagine being asked by my ticket agent, "Will you be flying clothed or non-clothed?" LOL
Um... Have you SEEN the
Um... Have you SEEN the people in normal airport lines? Eeew. Spring Break, maybe. Trips to Florida in winter? *shudder* Nekkid senior citizens....
