Microsoft abandons HD DVD?

It's good to have friends, right? A friend just flew back from CES with some interesting news. According to an unnamed Microsoft source, Microsoft plans to release an add-on Blu Ray player for the Xbox 360 console.

No one mentioned if this was to replace the existing HD DVD player or in addition to, but I have to think it's the latter. No reason for MS not to hedge their bets, especially in light of Warner Bros announcement they will exclusively support Blu Ray in the format war.

Check back for more info as it falls through the cracks.
